Eligibility
1. MISS FIRE ISLAND
Any male who has not surgically or hormonally altered his body. Judging is based on the choice of apparel, style, makeup, hair, charm, walk, and overall look in two categories:
(A) Day Wear: Casual, sporty, or cocktail chic: anything appropriate to Fire Island that is knee-length or shorter. Hats permitted.
(B) Evening Gown: Must be floor-length and formal/haute couture. Headdresses are not permitted.
2. ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR
They have paid professional entertainers who perform one piece lasting no longer than five (5) minutes. Performers may have a maximum of two backup dancers or singers. Judging is based on entertainment value, showmanship, and costume.
3. MS. FIRE ISLAND
Any male over 40 years old AND/OR weighing more than 200 lbs. Judging is based not on age or weight but evening gown (floor-length only), makeup, hair, charm, walk, and overall look. Headdresses are not permitted.
4. DRAG KING
Judging is based on the choice of apparel, style, makeup, and charm. Perform one piece lasting no longer than five (5) minutes.
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
All “Miss” and “Ms.” Fire Island contestants must arrive by 10:00 on the morning of the contest - Saturday, September 11, 2021. There is a 9:20 ferry from Sayville. Check-in with the contestant coordinators will take place between 10:00 and 11:00. Any Miss or Ms. contestant wishing to arrive before the day of the contest must make hotel reservations (see Contestant Rooming Sheet). Dressing rooms are assigned according to contestant number. There will be two (2) contestants per room.
Only one (1) assistant per contestant can enter the contestant dressing rooms due to space limitations. After the contest, rooms will be inspected for any damage and lack of cleanliness. If all is well - and we’re sure it will be! - a $10 key deposit will be returned to you, and you must check out at that time. Contestant must bring their towels to the event.
The winner and runners-up in the “Miss” and “Ms.” Categories must appear the next day in their winning evening gowns. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of prize money. The Grove Hotel will provide overnight accommodations if necessary. Prize money for these categories is awarded after the Coronation Ball on Sunday, September 12, around 2:00 P.M.
All Entertainer of the Year Contestants must arrive at the Ice Palace by 6:00 P.M. Friday, September 10, 2021, with a track on Mp3 on a flash drive, NO CELL PHONES OR CD’S.
At that time, you will have an opportunity to rehearse your number and have a soundcheck. If two professionals choose the same music, the contestant whose entry is received first has the right to use it; the second entrant must select new material. Poor-quality tapes will not be accepted. Dressing rooms are assigned according to contestant number. There will be two contestants per room. You may check into your room any time after Wednesday at noon and may stay, free of charge, until Monday morning. After the contest, rooms will be inspected for any damage and lack of cleanliness. If all is well - and we’re sure it will be! - a $10 key deposit will be returned to you, and you must check out at that time.
We invite all Entertainer of the Year Contestants who win a prize to appear in the Coronation Ball the following day, Sunday, September 12, 2021.
There will be a meeting of all contestants on Saturday, September 11 at 11:00 A.M. You must attend. Once the contest begins at 1:00, we do not allow contestants to leave the premises. A contestant may not accept a gratuity (tip) at any time during the contest.
The Grove Hotel will not supply towels for any contestant dressing rooms. Would you please bring plenty of your own? The Grove Hotel is not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen belongings. Room safes are available upon check-in for a $10 refundable deposit.
Anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol, whose conduct undermines the quality and integrity of this contest, or who is late for any rehearsal, check-in, contestant meeting, or stage time will be disqualified and removed from the premises. The management reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone for any reason.
The judges’ decisions are final! They are independent of the Grove Hotel and are impartial. Contestant’s names are drawn at random to determine their contestant number. The coordinators of this contest reserve the right to make all decisions about the rules and regulations of the pageant.
All contestants are invited to attend the Coronation Ball (Winner’s Pageant and Tea Dance) the following day, Sunday, September 12, 2021, and participate in the final walk.
Contestants may not perform or entertain at any other club or venue during the Miss Fire Island weekend, Friday, September 11th through Sunday, September 13th.
